The thesis asks what a moment of visual experience is made of, and how such moments accumulate into a sense of duration. See How is information perceived? for the work that came out of it.
Experiment demos¶
Playable, in-browser versions of the paradigms used in my research. They run best on a desktop browser in a full-screen window — several of them time stimuli precisely, so a phone or a small window will not reproduce the real experiment.
Storyboard paradigm¶
Watch a short film clip, then drag the frames that best tell its story onto a storyboard. This is how key moments are identified — and people agree strikingly well on which frames matter.

Event segmentation paradigm¶
Watch a film and press a key whenever you feel one meaningful unit of activity has ended and another has begun. The classic event-boundary task, and the comparison against which key moments are measured.

Spatiotemporal disruptions during film viewing¶
A film plays with brief flickers, and occasionally jumps forward or backward in time across one. Can you tell when it skipped? Most people miss a good number of them — and miss the forward jumps more often.

Subjective expansion of time¶
Does time really slow down during novel or startling events? These tachypsychia experiments test whether the expansion is in perception or only in memory.
