Is grammar a property of language, or of thought?
Language is not the only way to carry a complex thought. A handful of pictures can do it too, and readers agree on how those pictures group into a story. When a parser built for sentences is handed a grammar for pictures, it groups them the same way. Grammar may be a property of how we think, not just of what we say.
